A map of record stores worth the trip.

Collectors share record stores the way they always have: notes, pins on a map, messages from friends. Maps and review sites rank by stars. Side B puts taste over ratings, and the map first. I built it for myself, then friends wanted to use it, and now it's an iPhone app for every record collector.

Refining the data

A good map stands or falls with data you can trust. I designed that data as carefully as the interface.

The first 3,300 stores came from an earlier web version. Good enough to start, too thin to trust: only 1 in 5 had a genre, and some pins pointed to shops that had closed.

I added opening hours and closures from place data, and genres from seller profiles and Instagram. Every genre has to come with a source.

Stores check their own details, and anyone can flag what's wrong. It all goes through a queue that gets reviewed.

Light and dark

Each with its own map style, tested in both for contrast and accessibility.
